Essay (CRM 1410) The media coverage of Oscar Pistorius case The theory that I will discuss for my essay is called psychological positivism. Psychological positivism is a theory, which suggest that there is criminal personality that resides in the minds of the criminals. The theory was designed by Austrian neurologist called Sigmund Freud. He believed that some people committed crime due to certain internal factors that one had little or no control over. These internal factors can be formed due to lack of parental love or it can also be formed if an individual has suffered a tragedy in the past which can lead to an individual committing crime. Sigmund Feud also believed that there are more than one aspects to human personality. These aspects are id, ego and superego which developed over time in different stages in oneââ¬â¢s life. The first thing that is developed in human personality is the id. It is a biological component of the personality, which include humanââ¬â¢s basics. The id is our most primitive need gratification impulses. The second interacting force that is developed in our nature is called superego, which exist in all three of our consciousness. Superego is the higher power of our mind that is concerned with what is socially acceptable. The third and the last aspect of our personality is called ego which only exist in conscious and preconscious minds. The ego feature of our personality works according to reality principle.
